Removing Transportation Barriers for Those with Medical Conditions and Financial Hardships

Angel Flight Southeast is made up of more than 700 volunteer pilots and non-pilot volunteers, known as Earth Angels, who arrange free transportation to necessary facilities each year for individuals with severe medical conditions, financial hardship, or other urgent needs.

Passengers may include cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, sick children, wounded veterans, survivors of domestic violence seeking relocation, and even first responders supporting natural or artificial disaster relief. The goal is to remove transportation barriers so that patients and families can focus on healing, safety, and improved quality of life.

Operating across Florida, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and beyond, Angel Flight Southeast is part of the nationwide Air Charity Network. Their no-cost flights assist individuals of all ages, from infants to seniors, traveling for reasons such as clinical trials, ongoing treatment, or critical follow-up care. Compassion flights may also be arranged for attending a loved one’s funeral or reuniting wounded warriors with family.

For survivors of domestic abuse, transportation is often coordinated through referrals from caseworkers or shelter directors, ensuring safety and confidentiality. In addition, special camp flights are available for children and adults with disabilities, and adoption-related flights can support visitations or the placement of children, provided a parent or agency representative accompanies them for the entire journey.

Guidelines for Flights

While the service is generous, there are essential guidelines for participation. Passengers must be medically stable, able to sit upright during the flight, and must secure a doctor’s medical release before travel. Since Angel Flight Southeast is not a medical transport service, pilots are not trained to provide in-flight medical care. Flights must be requested at least two weeks in advance.
