Fostering Opportunity and Growth Through Career Development and Education

With a vision grounded in integrity, focus, collaboration, action, accountability, and leadership, CareerSource Northeast Florida (NEFL) is a regional leader in workforce development. It is committed to empowering individuals and strengthening communities through education and employment.

CareerSource Northeast Florida (NEFL), recognizing that a skilled workforce is the foundation of a prosperous economy, connects job seekers with employers. Serving Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns counties, CareerSource NEFL collaborates with major partners such as Employ Florida and FloridaShines and a vast network of local businesses, nonprofits, and educational institutions.

These partnerships allow CareerSource NEFL to offer a suite of services to meet the diverse needs of its communities. From workforce training and reemployment support to youth engagement and veteran and military spouse services, CareerSource NEFL delivers impactful resources that promote long-term success in the labor market.

Additional programs such as the Welfare Transition Program (TANF) and the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Employment & Training initiative further enhance CareerSource NEFL’s ability to reach individuals needing financial stability and career direction. Participation in CareerSource NEFL’s training programs is open to individuals with specific eligibility criteria.

These typically include being a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the country, residing in one of the six serviced counties, and experiencing a layoff or financial hardship. Once accepted, participants can receive financial support to remove barriers to education and training. This assistance may cover tuition costs, certification and licensing fees, textbooks, supplies, uniforms, and other essential items.

Encouraging Community Reentry Through Employment

CareerSource NEFL is also committed to inclusive workforce practices, offering Fair Chance Resources to support individuals with criminal records. These resources create equitable pathways into the workforce, providing access to training programs, resume building, interview preparation, and connections to local employers open to hiring justice-involved individuals.

Disability Resources are another cornerstone of CareerSource NEFL’s inclusive services. These programs provide support to individuals with disabilities, with an emphasis on helping disabled veterans transition from military to civilian life. Participants receive one-on-one guidance in job searching, career planning, and leveraging assistive technologies.

Matching Young People With Internships and Apprenticeships

For youth and young adults, CareerSource NEFL offers internship opportunities as an entry point into the workforce. Targeted at individuals aged 16 to 24, these internships provide hands-on experience in real-world settings, including nonprofit organizations and private businesses. To broaden access and improve outcomes, NEFL partners with education and training organizations such as the A-Step Program, Job Corps, First Coast Technical College, Stepping Stones, St. Johns River State College, and the University of North Florida.

In addition to internships, CareerSource NEFL provides apprenticeship programs through its partnership with Earn UP and other workforce development initiatives. These programs are designed for individuals who want to learn a trade while earning a wage. Apprenticeships are available in industries like hospitality, construction, and information technology—sectors with strong growth potential and long-term career paths.

Helping Eligible Individuals Receive Access to TANF and SNAP Benefits

The Welfare Transition Program (TANF) supports individuals and families moving from public assistance to economic independence. Through this program, eligible participants receive temporary financial aid while engaging in job training, education, or employment services. TANF funds can also support children’s needs and cover childcare expenses, making it easier for parents to pursue career advancement.

To enroll, individuals must reside in a county served by CareerSource NEFL, register through the One-Stop Service Tracking System (OSST), and complete an online orientation. In collaboration with FloridaCommerce, CareerSource Northeast Florida proudly offers the Florida Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Education and Training (E&T) program.

This initiative helps eligible individuals access food assistance and gain the skills and training needed for long-term employment and self-sufficiency. Participation in the employment and training component is mandatory for continued eligibility and support. To get started, applicants must first register and complete an application through the One-Stop Service Tracking System (OSST)—a platform that manages enrollment and monitors participation in required activities.

The OSST portal is accessible through the CareerSource NEFL website and includes information on available services, program requirements, and next steps. Once enrolled, participants receive personalized career planning assistance, including job readiness workshops, skills assessments, vocational training, and job placement services. The SNAP E&T program serves as a bridge to opportunity, helping individuals transition from public assistance to financial independence through meaningful employment.

Offering Veterans and Spouses Valuable Support

In addition to supporting the general public, CareerSource NEFL serves the region’s veteran community through its Veterans’ Employment Network. This specialized program partners with Employ Florida and the U.S. Department of Labor, ensuring veterans have priority access to various employment services. Veterans can utilize career counseling, resume writing workshops, job fairs, and dedicated job placement support.

Recognizing that military families face unique employment challenges, CareerSource NEFL extends many services to military spouses. Spouses of active duty service members, veterans, and reservists are eligible to receive customized career support, including access to educational resources, certification programs, resume development, and job matching services.
