A Lifeline of Care and Advocacy for Those with Epilepsy

Founded in 1971, Epilepsy Alliance Florida (EAFLA) is the largest epilepsy organization in the state, extending its outreach to communities across Florida, including St. Johns County. EAFLA offers programs designed to meet the medical, emotional, and social needs of individuals with epilepsy. Through case management, individuals receive customized support tailored to their unique circumstances. Case managers assess clients' needs, develop personalized care plans, and connect them to resources, including transportation, education, adaptive care, and epilepsy management services.

Ensuring Participants Access Comprehensive Care

To build community and reduce isolation, EAFLA offers support groups, available both in-person and virtually. These groups create a safe environment where individuals and families can share their experiences, reflect on challenges, and learn about available resources, all while connecting with peers who understand their journey. Recognizing the importance of accessible healthcare, the organization partners with licensed physicians and healthcare providers to offer a telemedicine program.

Education and prevention also play a central role in EAFLA's work. The prevention and education program engages schools, organizations, nursing homes, daycare centers, and community professionals to raise awareness and improve understanding of epilepsy. By training individuals in the community, EAFLA empowers them to provide adequate support and create more inclusive environments.

Fostering Personal Growth and Self-Management

For those coping with the emotional and psychological impact of epilepsy, EAFLA provides psychological services that include counseling, assessments, and consultations. Additionally, its specialized training programs provide seizure first-aid education, equipping caregivers, teachers, and professionals with the knowledge to respond effectively in emergencies.

The organization also provides medical services, including evaluations, follow-up care, blood monitoring, and electrodiagnostic testing such as MRIs, CT scans, and other screenings. These services ensure that participants have access to the advanced medical care necessary for effective management of epilepsy.

Beyond clinical and educational services, EAFLA fosters personal growth and empowerment through self-management programs that teach strategies for living well with epilepsy. Children and families also have access to Camp Boggy Creek. In this unique and supportive environment, participants can enjoy activities such as archery, fishing, woodshop, swimming, nature walks, and the performing arts, all in a safe and inclusive space.
