Summary of Services

  • Community Outings for veterans, which include fishing trips, shopping excursions, and recreational activities
  • Opportunities to engage with the community and enjoy life outside the nursing home
  • Programs fostering companionship, empathy, and a sense of belonging

Supporting Veterans in Staying Active and Connected

The Friends of Lassen comprises spouses of residents at the Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans Nursing Home, as well as widows, volunteers, and locals within the community. Outings such as fishing trips, shopping excursions, and other community experiences provide veterans with opportunities to step outside the nursing home environment and reconnect with the world around them.

These activities not only allow them to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, such as feeling the sun on their face while casting a line or browsing store aisles with a sense of choice and independence, but also help nurture a sense of dignity and belonging.

Empowering Veterans with Purposeful Fundraising

To sustain these efforts, the group actively organizes fundraising events, including community yard sales and similar initiatives. Proceeds directly benefit the veterans, funding the purchase of personal items, activity supplies, and facility improvements that enhance comfort and quality of life.
