Supporting Children Living with Developmental, Neurological, and Sensory Conditions

Horseplay Therapy Center provides a compassionate and therapeutic environment for both veterans dealing with physical and emotional trauma and exceptional-needs children. Horseplay offers Hippotherapy, a clinical approach that uses horse movement as part of an integrated therapy for children under 18 with a range of developmental, neurological and sensory conditions. Licensed professionals in speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and mental health services guide this method.

This therapy  is especially beneficial for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and sensory processing challenges. Interaction with horses enhances motor skills, coordination, and sensory integration, while also encouraging emotional regulation and confidence.

To ensure safety for all participants, mounted activities are limited to children who weigh less than 140 pounds. This protects the well-being of the horses, clients, and therapy staff.

Eligibility and Enrollment

Parents interested in enrolling their child must first schedule a visit with their pediatrician to discuss therapeutic needs and obtain a formal referral for services such as speech, occupational, or physical therapy. Once the referral is received, families should make two copies. One copy must be faxed to 904-212-1114, which connects to a clinical partner affiliated with Horseplay Therapy Center. The second copy should accompany the completed intake form and be emailed to (office@nextstep-kids.com). After submission, please allow up to three business days for scheduling and processing of services.

Veterans' Treatment For PTSD, TBI, and Trauma

In addition to pediatric therapy, Horseplay Therapy Center proudly offers its Rise Up Veterans program, which provides mental health support for active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. This initiative addresses the unique struggles faced by veterans, including post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, military sexual trauma, reintegration challenges, hazing trauma, and the burdens carried by caregivers.

Veterans engage in healing activities that promote emotional resilience, foster meaningful connection, and honor their service. The supportive environment extends to families, ensuring that healing is shared and strengthened by the community.
