A Nurturing Space for Youth and Adults
Ketterlinus Gym Community Center offers programs to enrich the lives of youth and adults alike. Its most popular offerings are youth basketball clinics that provide skill development, teamwork, and physical activity in a supportive environment.
The center also runs after-school programs that combine academic support with recreational activities, giving children a safe and productive place to go once the school day ends. In addition to youth programs, Ketterlinus Gym offers volleyball opportunities for men, women, and co-ed teams.
A Legacy Steeped in Community Service
The history of Ketterlinus Gym is rooted in a spirit of generosity. William Warden, the builder of Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum had a daughter named Elizabeth B. Ketterlinus. She donated the land for the gym to the St. Johns County School Board, laying the foundation for a long legacy of community service.
The original Ketterlinus High School opened in 1924 and, over the decades, underwent several transformations. By the 1990s, it had become an elementary school, while the gym remained an active part of the neighborhood across the street.
A Versatile Venue for Programs and Gatherings
Amenities at Ketterlinus Gym include a full basketball court and a volleyball court, supporting the center's athletic programs. Additionally, the facility offers meeting rooms that can be used for community gatherings, workshops, or educational sessions, making it a flexible space for various events and activities.
