Maintaining Safety Through Crime and Fraud Prevention

The Office of the State Attorney – 7th Judicial Circuit is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the State of Florida and ensuring that justice is served fairly and impartially. Serving Bunnell, Daytona, DeLand, Palatka, and St. Augustine, the office is dedicated to preventing crime and safeguarding the community by offering elder abuse prevention and reporting services, victim advocacy, and fraud prevention programs. 

Through its Elder Abuse Prevention and Reporting Services, the State Attorney’s Office investigates cases of financial exploitation, neglect, and other forms of mistreatment directed at elderly or disabled individuals. Anyone who suspects that an elder or disabled person is being abused is strongly encouraged to report it by calling the Florida Abuse Hotline at (800) 962-2873. 

Preserving The Principles of Justice for Communities

The office also supports victims through its Victim Advocacy Services. Victim Advocates provide information about victim rights, assist with crisis intervention, connect individuals with community resources through its referral service, and offer courtroom advocacy during proceedings. They also help victims in filing compensation claims. Individuals seeking these services can call (904) 209-1620 to be connected with a Victim Advocate, or they may reach out to the St. Johns County Clerk’s Office at (904) 819-3600.

Additionally, the Worthless Check Collection and Diversion Division helps victims of fraud recover money lost through bad or fraudulent checks. Victims may call (904) 209-1620 for assistance, and a victim packet is available online to guide them through the process.

Mission Statement

The State Attorney or designee, shall appear in the circuit and county courts within the Seventh Judicial Circuit, and prosecute or defend, on behalf of the State, all suits, applications, or motions, civil or criminal, in which the State is a party, unless otherwise provided by law. We shall seek justice by fairly and diligently representing the interests of the people of the Seventh Judicial Circuit and the State of Florida.

This office provides direction and leadership to the Criminal Justice System in the Seventh Judicial Circuit. The importance of our mission dictates that each employee focus their best efforts at achieving our goals. That requires each employee to exercise good judgment and professional behavior in performing their duties.
