Outreach and Education - City of St. Augustine Fire Department

Providing hands-on training, safety education, and empowerment opportunities to help the community stay safe, confident, and prepared.

Summary of Services 

  •  Public programs for businesses, clubs, schools, and community members to promote safety awareness
  • Free hands-on classes using manikins to practice life-saving techniques during cardiac emergencies (non-certified)
  • Classes focusing on fall awareness, risk factors, injury prevention, and response strategies, especially for seniors
  • 45-minute guided tours showcasing equipment, gear, and daily operations of the Fire Department
  • Spark the Flame: Programs for middle and high school girls to learn fire safety skills, rappelling, hose spraying, and build confidence through hands-on activities

Teaching Individuals How to Stay Safe

Fire Safety, CPR Training, Fire Extinguisher Training, Fall Prevention, Group Tours, and camps are available through the Outreach and Education Division with the City of St. Augustine's Fire Department. Emphasizing safety by providing public education for businesses, clubs, schools, and others, these programs teach individuals how to stay safe. 

Educating Others About Cardiac Arrest and At-Risk Environments

Through the CPR Training Program, participants can take advantage of free classes designed to provide hands-on experience on manikins that can help save a life during an emergency. The class is not certified, but it can still teach others how to respond to cardiac arrest. For more information, please visit here.

Interactive fire extinguisher training helps those in high-risk environments practice real-world scenarios using Stove Top, Trash Can, and Electric Motor props with the I.T.S. Xtremeâ„¢ Live-Fire Extinguisher Training System. For more information, please visit here. 

Promoting Fall Prevention and Helping to Build Confidence

Recognizing the leading cause of death or injury amongst seniors, Fall Prevention is a training class that teaches individuals what to do if a fall occurs and provides information about fall facts, the types of fall injuries, and risk factors associated with those who may have experienced fractures and head trauma. Free Fire Station tours provide information about the gear, equipment, and physical efforts that members of the Fire Department conduct to keep the city safe. Demonstrations and tours of the fire station can be explored for 45 minutes. For more information, contact (904) 825-1098 or visit here.

Empowerment Camps are available through Spark the Flame, a program created by the St. Augustine Fire Department. Girls in middle and high school learn about fire hose spraying, rappelling, and other activities, while building confidence. For more information, please visit here.
