SAFE Program - SJC Sheriff's Office

Giving First Responders the information they need to safely and effectively assist individuals with exceptional needs in our community.

Summary of Services

  • Provides special identification stickers for registered vehicles and homes to discreetly alert First Responders of a resident or driver with disabilities or exceptional needs
  • Maintains confidential information on enrolled individuals, including relevant medical or behavioral details

Notifying Law Enforcement of Individuals With Special Needs

The SAFE Program, created under the CS/HB 1275 bill, assists individuals with disabilities or exceptional needs, including developmental delays, cognitive impairments, and mental health challenges. Examples include Down syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum disorder, and other conditions that may affect communication, behavior, or decision-making.

Through this program, participants receive specially designed stickers for their vehicles and homes. These stickers act as discreet alerts, informing law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel that someone inside may require specialized communication or care.

Encouraging Individuals, Parents, and Legal Guardians to Enroll
