Helping Individuals and Families Achieve Affordable Homeownership
Since 1992, the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program has been a cornerstone of Florida's efforts to expand access to affordable homeownership. By distributing funds to all 67 counties, SHIP supports local governments in assisting low- and moderate-income families. Its mission is to ensure affordable homeownership is within reach for those who need it most, promoting stability and long-term community development.
The program offers financial assistance options to ease the burden of purchasing and maintaining a home. These include direct loans, deferred payment loans, and grants. SHIP assists with down payments and monthly payments and provides resources that address broader housing needs.
Beyond initial homebuyer support, SHIP funds are used for home rehabilitation and repair, ensuring that existing homes remain safe and livable. The program also supports the construction of new affordable housing units, helping to expand the housing supply in growing communities. SHIP offers foreclosure prevention services for those facing financial hardship. Additionally, in times of crisis, such as natural disasters, SHIP provides recovery assistance to help homeowners repair or rebuild damaged properties.
