Solomon Calhoun Community Center, a 24,000-square-foot facility, fosters community engagement and provides a welcoming space for residents and visitors to participate in various recreational, educational, and wellness activities.
Multiple organizations utilize the center to host enriching programs for people of all ages. The St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department, Northeast Florida Community Action Agency, Sheriff's Office Weed and Seed Program, West Augustine Athletic Association, and the YMCA Swimming Program all offer classes, workshops, and community events at this location.

A Tradition of Excellence in Athletics and Learning
Solomon Calhoun was a respected educator, mentor, and coach in St. Johns County. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida A&M University and became the university's first-team All-American football player in 1934. Beyond athletics, he was the county's teacher, principal, and Director of Pupil Welfare. Calhoun supported the community through entrepreneurship, operating the Chapin Street Grocery and Washeteria in St. Augustine.
His deep commitment to civic life was evident in his active participation in numerous organizations, including the NAACP, St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Grand United Order of Oddfellows, San Sebastian and Elks Lodge, National Retired Teachers Association, and the St. Johns County Mental Health Association.
