Preventing Pet Surrenders Through Support and Care
The St. Augustine Humane Society supports animal health, wellness, and long-term stability. Its mission centers on preserving and strengthening the bond between people and their pets. By offering affordable veterinary care and community-based support services, the organization helps reduce the number of animals surrendered to shelters due to financial hardship or lack of access to care.
Through compassion-driven initiatives, the Humane Society aims to ensure that every pet can remain a cherished member of its family, regardless of circumstance. The Humane Society provides services to meet the community's needs. These services include preventive veterinary care, access to a pet food pantry, and financing options for pet owners facing financial challenges.
In collaboration with Home Again St. Johns, the organization also offers veterinary assistance for individuals experiencing homelessness. This partnership ensures that even the community's most vulnerable members can access care for their companions.
Addressing Common Health Concerns
The Humane Society's veterinary services are comprehensive and focused on preventive health. Available treatments and procedures include routine wellness exams, vaccinations, microchipping, parasite prevention, deworming, laboratory testing, spay and neuter surgeries, and dental cleanings.
These services address health concerns, prevent disease, and promote a pet's longevity. In addition to medical care, the organization offers professional pet grooming services. These include hand stripping, trimming, and scissoring, all performed by skilled grooming staff.
The St. Augustine Humane Society does not operate a shelter on this property.
Distributing Food to Low-Income Families
Lastly, the pet food pantry eases the financial burden of feeding animals. Through generous donations, the St. Augustine Humane Society receives thousands of pounds of pet food, which is distributed to low-income families. This initiative helps pet owners retain their animals during difficult times and prevents unnecessary pet surrenders.
Those needing food assistance are encouraged to visit the St. Augustine Humane Society on Fridays, when pantry registration is typically available. Eligibility is based on income; participants must meet specific requirements to qualify for support.
To access the pet food pantry or any low-cost veterinary services, individuals must provide proof of participation in government assistance programs such as SSI, WIC, Section 8 Housing, Subsidized Housing, Food Stamps, MediPass, or similar income-based services. In addition, applicants must fall within a gross annual household income range of $16,245 to $38,685.
