St. Johns County Council on Aging

Keeping older residents active, healthy, and independent through specialized clubs and programs.

Enhancing the Lives of Seniors

For over 50 years, St. Johns County Council on Aging (COA) has been a trusted and compassionate support system for older adults, as well as those who care for them. The local nonprofit organization is dedicated to enriching their lives and helping them maintain independence, dignity, and a strong sense of community.

Through comprehensive programs and services, COA offers essential resources, including nutritious meals, meaningful companionship, and engaging activities, that keep seniors active and foster social connections, thereby reducing isolation and promoting overall well-being.

Providing Meals and Social Support

COA's Nutrition Services enable seniors to receive balanced, nourishing meals delivered directly to their homes through their Meals on Wheels program or in a communal setting at COA's senior centers located throughout St. Johns County, FL. Beyond providing sustenance, home-delivered meals offer a regular touchpoint with caring volunteers, who check in on each recipient, ensuring they feel seen, supported, and valued.

Congregate meals provide seniors with critical nutrition as well as much-needed social interaction and support.

Supplying Essential Resources

COA's Sunshine Center is a therapeutic adult daycare center open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The center supports individuals dealing with memory loss, brain trauma, Alzheimer's disease, or other forms of dementia.

The Sunshine Center also offers caregivers much-needed respite time. COA's Care Connection program links seniors to essential resources that support their continued independence, including minor home repairs, safety equipment installation, wheelchair accessibility options, lawn care, and assistance applying for outside resources.

Boosting Cognitive Function through Education and Fitness

COA's senior centers and lifelong learning centers, located in St. Augustine, Nocatee, Ponte Vedra Beach, Hastings, and Orangedale, offer a variety of educational classes, activities, clubs, lectures, arts, fitness, and healthy living classes, as well as lunch at designated locations. These programs allow seniors to engage their minds, bodies, and spirits in ways that enhance their quality of life.

COA's Integrative Memory Enhancement Program, IMEP™, offers a research-based program specifically designed to stimulate cognitive function and help seniors combat the progression of memory loss. COA's Independent Living Services program supports those who wish to remain self-sufficient, offering resources and guidance to assist with everyday tasks and maintain a safe, comfortable living environment.

Social clubs and support groups provide opportunities for exploration, shared experiences, and the chance to form new friendships, bringing joy and vitality to participants' lives.
