Helping Eligible Senior Residents Manage Overdue Electric Bills
St. Johns County Social Services offers a specialized Electric Bill Assistance Program exclusively for seniors aged 60 and older. This program helps eligible senior residents manage overdue electric bills and avoid disrupting essential utility services, ensuring they can continue to live safely and comfortably in their homes.
Eligibility and Requirements
To qualify, applicants must be residents of St. Johns County, 60 years of age or older, and must reside in the home for which they require assistance. The electric bill must be past due, and applicants must provide documentation to verify their need. This includes copies of the past-due energy bills, which demonstrate the urgency and necessity of support.
In addition to proof of the overdue account, applicants must submit identifying and financial documents to verify their eligibility. These include a valid driver's license or I.D., a Social Security card, bank statements, and proof of income.
This program reflects St. Johns County's ongoing commitment to supporting its aging population and protecting residents from the risks associated with utility shutoffs.
