Improving the Health of Mothers and Children
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is a no-cost nutrition service that supports the health and well-being of pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children under the age of five. WIC helps families access nutritious foods through nutrition education and counseling, and provides valuable guidance and support for breastfeeding.
The program promotes healthy pregnancies, positive birth outcomes, and proper growth and development in young children.
Enhancing Nutrition and Balance Through Its Offerings
Eligible participants receive electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards, which can be used at approved grocery stores to purchase healthy food items. These include milk, cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and baby formula, among other staples that contribute to a balanced diet.
Elgibility
To apply for WIC, individuals must contact the St. Johns WIC Office to schedule an appointment. Applicants should come prepared with documentation, including identification for themselves and their children, such as a birth certificate, immunization records, Social Security card, driver's license, or other official photo ID.
Proof of residency, such as a utility bill or rental agreement, is also required. Applicants should also provide proof of income or employment, such as recent pay stubs, bank statements, documentation of public assistance, or a Medicaid card.
